The budget document is one of the most important documents produced by a locality. The FY2019 Budget Document identifies the services to be provided (along with the funding), and the rationale behind key decisions for a year-long period between July 1, 2018 and June 30, 2019. Within each budget document you will find an introduction and overview, financial structure, policy and process, financial summaries, departmental information, and capital and debt information.
Budget Development Process
The budget development process starts in the Fall and concludes with a presentation to City Council in the Spring. The City of Roanoke’s budget documents have been awarded the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) Distinguished Budget Presentation Award since 1985.
